Deep Work: How to Study for 12 Hours Straight
Studying for 12 hours isn't about willpower. It's about systems. Elite performers don't rely on motivation; they create environments where focus is the default option.
1. The Environment
Remove everything. Phone in another room. Noise-canceling headphones on. White noise playing. Your desk should have only the task at hand. Visual clutter creates mental clutter.
2. The Pomodoro on Steroids (50/10)
The standard 25/5 is too short for deep concepts. Use 50 minutes of intense work followed by 10 minutes of complete decompression. In the break: do NOT look at a screen. Stare at a wall, stretch, or get water. Let your diffuse mode network process the information.
3. Active Recall
Don't just re-read. Test yourself constantly. If it feels hard, that means it's working. Learning that feels easy is usually wasted time.
